Rusty Hearts features a free, unique way to upgrade your equipment. Beginning at level one, you can acquire Wiseman's Stones and Cracked Augment Pebbles. By taking Wiseman's Stones to Ruska, you can pay for an upgrade (upgrades have a chance of removing all previous upgrades.) that has an increasing cost of gold/stones the further you upgrade.
Blacksmith Fortification[]

At Fortification level 6-8 your weapons will have a green glow.
- Level 9-11 they will glow a blue color.
- Level 12-14 will glow yellow.
- Level 15-17 will glow purple.
- Level 18+ will glow red.
Success chance[]
This list was given by one of the Rusty Hearts admins, it was found on RH Source, and expected to be fairly accurate.
You'll quickly notice weapons are more likely to break than armor.

- If your fortification fails your item will be cleaned of all enhancements, including augmentation stones.
- If you fail an item that has level 13 or higher your item will be destroyed!

Augmentation Stones[]
Another alternative is to use Cracked Augment Pebble. These stones, while not requiring increasing amount and combine costs, only upgrade magic/physical damage by one. Pebbles can be combined together in a similar "enhancement" process, but may be destroyed in the process. If you successfully combine two Pebbles, you will have a single Cracked Augment Pebble marked as "+2". Adding another one would raise this to +3 and so on.
Combining up to a +15 stone has an estimated 80% chance of success, and this will steadily decline as the level grows.
Enhancement stones have been seen up to augmentation level +100. Though these have a very high chance of failing, and thus are very rare indeed.
Note: When combining different types of augment stones / pebbles, the lowest kind will be the resulting kind. Hence you can not use a level 10 stone to upgrade a level 20 stone +1 level, but you CAN use a level 20 stone to upgrade a level 10 stone by 1 level.
